Healthy City Guide

My two favorite places to travel during the winter months are New York City and Chicago. I know it may seem counterintuitive as it’s winter, but there is something about experiencing these cities during those months that is magical. I have been saving my hometown Healthy City Guide for the perfect moment, and New Year’s feels right.  Let me help you kick off your resolutions by introducing you to a place so close to my heart!

Where to Eat:

The Chicago Diner – Get this, The Chicago Diner is a 100% vegan restaurant with a chill vibe in the cool kid neighborhood of Logan Square. I love love love the Thai Chili Wings, but everything I have tried has been phenomenal.

High Five Ramen – Of all the restaurants on this list, High Five means the most to me. I have taken some of the people I hold nearest and dearest to this tiny basement hideout. Tucked in the basement of a sister restaurant it seats no more than 15 people. That said, be ready to wait at least an hour to be seated. My go to is the Maitake Ramen subbing egg for bok choy!

Karyn’s Raw – Karyn’s opened in 1995 serving raw and plant based food, WAY before plant based raw diets were trendy or mainstream. Trailblazers like Karyn are some of my biggest inspirations, and this space is the epitome of inspiring. Everything from the R & B playing in the background, to the small retail section in the back, to the smell of fresh pressed juices, oh and of course the food.

What to Do:

SoulCycle with Anthony M. – I have always been a fan of SoulCycle because of the convenience no matter where you are in the country. I haven’t included it in a Healthy City Guide yet because it’s a pretty well known company and class format. If you have been to one you have been to them all. A rule that applies to most, but not Anthony M’s class. His is the hardest class I have ever taken in a SoulCycle studio. He sets himself apart by focusing on correct riding mechanics, and it’s plain as day how much he loves his job.

Pilates ProWorks with Ryan – Pilates is one of my favorite workouts, especially when I want an ass kicking without the harsh pounding on my joints. Pilates ProWorks in Lincoln Park and soon to be The West Loop, offers numerous different classes that do just that. My favorite instructor is Ryan, he creates a balance between a phenomenal workout and a great lighthearted time.

Jordan Brand Training at Station 23 – If you want to workout like a pro athlete this is your spot. The Jordan trainers will set you up with your own Jordan gear and work you out in the private facility above their retail store on State Street. Bryan Jackson (aka B Jack) is a good friend of mine and I promise will whip you into shape.
