Algenist Vegan Skincare

Does It Really Work?

I focus a lot of my attention on the food I put inside my body. While I have dabbled in it, I figure it’s time I pay that same attention to the products I put on my body. Enter stage left, Algenist.

Algenist is a clinical skincare line that harnesses the power of algae into anti-aging skincare products. They were nice enough to gift me 4 of their vegan products that I spent the better part of 3 weeks trying so I could review them for you. Note, not all of their skincare products are vegan but the 4 products I tested are vegan and hypoallergenic, and also paraben, sulfate, synthetic dye, phthalate, GMO and triclosan free. While I had never heard of the brand prior to testing it, I have to say I am truly impressed. The products are arranged from left to right in the photograph above.

  • GENIUS Liquid Collegen – As a vegan, I have never had the opportunity to dive into the culty world of collagen and I was definitely most excited to try this collagen. Let me say after trying it, I completely understand the obsession with collagen. Of all 4 products, I will continue to purchase this on my own for day-t0-day use. The elasticity of my skin noticeable improved, my dark spots became much less intense and my under eye circles improved.
  • GENIUS Ultimate Anti-Aging Cream – I haven’t used many anti-aging creams in my day, but this is one of the most lux creams I have ever used. It is thick while not being greasy, it smells like cake batter and it makes my skin feel plump and hydrated all day. I think this will become my night cream moving forward.
  • Complete Eye Renewal Balm – As I have gotten older, I have developed a fear of eye wrinkles. One of the products I have been searching high and low for is an under eye cream that is both effective while playing well with my makeup. While this isn’t an extremely moisturizing under eye cream, it’s effective and great for under makeup.
  • Sublime Defense Ultra Lightweight UV Defense Fluid SPF 50 – Probably the most important product on the list, this SPF checks all of the boxes. It’s not greasy or white and streaky, it doesn’t have a strong SPF smell and it had a screw on top that won’t spill in your bag. For my combination skin it was great. Quick disclaimer however, Dani tried it as well and it had a tendency to break her out. Keep in mind she has very dry skin and wasn’t using the whole skincare regime, she just tested the SPF.

I thought the line was great overall. What do you think? Would you be interested in trying out vegan skincare?
